Periodontics

The soft, pink tissue above the teeth is often referred to as your "gums." To dental professionals, gums are known as periodontal tissues, soft tissues, gingiva. It takes years of targeted post-graduate training to be considered a specialist in periodontics, as Dr. Grossman is. A periodontist restores and maintains the health and appearance of your gum tissue.

Addressing gum disease is one of the most important aspects of Dr. Grossman's work, because poor gum health affects so many other aspects of your body, such as jaw bone tissue, risks of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, or other health complications.

Gum Disease Therapy – Did you know that up to 80% of American adults have some form of gum disease? Without treatment, gum disease often devours gum tissue, causes bone loss, and eventually leads to tooth loss. At our practice, we offer innovative gum disease treatments, such as deep cleanings, surgery, and antibiotic therapy to help prevent the breakdown of the periodontium (gum and bone tissue).

Gum Recontouring – Does too much gum tissue show when you smile? With aesthetic recontouring, also called a gingivectomy, Dr. Grossman can gently remove excess gum tissue, revealing bright, white teeth and a bold, new smile.

Soft-Tissue Grafts – When gums recede and expose tooth roots, you can experience sensitivity and a higher risk of disease or decay. A soft-tissue (gum) graft is a procedure in which Dr. Grossman covers the exposed tooth root, thereby improving esthetics and alleviating tooth sensitivity.
